Blog 4...Fiction

Reflect on the similarities and differences between writing fiction and writing about fiction. How did writing about fiction inform your own fiction, and vice versa? What did you learn from this experience that you could use in your future teaching?

If i had to choose between writing about fiction and writing fiction i would choose writing fiction. Being able to write fiction is being able to create a reality for someone who you have chosen to create, or it enables you to expand on something that happens in every day life. When i wrote my fiction assigment, i worked on something that i had either heard or experienced from a front row. I took something and wrote on it by adding more sensory details that would get on my reader's emotions. When writing about fiction, I had to be aware of all the elements used in the story so that i could expand more on it. Like for example, i have to notice personification, exaggeration, metaphors, or any historical context that could be useful. The writer of the fiction decides to develop his story however he wants, ,and it is up to us to decide which elements make the story so relevant.

If i was to teach about fiction, i would probably introduce the basic knowledge and basic terminology so that students then have a writing assigment in which they can introduce their learned terminology. I would give them a promt that i know would lead to something very creative, and then I would have them illustrate their story.

I like writing fiction instead of writing about fiction.

Cindy, I agree with you that fiction in one way or another stems from personal experience. I think for me writing is often an outlet, and the things i write about are not things that i usually talk about. That being said, writing can be scary at times especially when its tagged as so called "fiction." I think its hard to write something that is completely unrelated to the writer and so it is hardly ever about fictional charcters.

Aditionally, having to go through a story and pick out elements that the auhtor put in their with whatever intetntion is kinda boring. I just wasnt too interested in going through the literary elemets that the story had.
